Decertification Vote Texas City
10/25/2002
EPILOGUE TO THE 2002 DECERTIFICATION ELECTION October 25, 2002 Friends, neighbors, and supporters, the 2002 decertification election in Texas City is now completed. Due to the help of the Texas City Community and fellow Union members around the world, the Texas City Metal Trades Council Membership has recorded a resounding victory today. The Texas City Union Membership withstood a barrage of determined actions by the Dow Corporation during this campaign. Once again, the Brothers and Sisters of this Texas City Union rose to the occasion. Still friends, the Union Membership takes no real delight in this unforgettable experience. It is the opinion of the Union Membership that the efforts put forth by both the Union and the company could have been used for a much more constructive endeavor. However, the Union Membership of the Texas City was left with no other alternative except to defend themselves and their Community. Friends and neighbors, it is now the hope of the Union Membership that all further developments in Texas City will be a positive nature for all. Thursday, the Union Membership was made aware of the Dow corporations’ business difficulties by CEO Mike Parker. As we are all aware, the economic situation in the U.S. could possibly be of some concern presently. That is why the Texas City Metal Trades Council is now calling upon the company to move forward together with the Union Members to work for the common good of all. It is now time to get down to the serious business of negotiating a Fair and Equitable Contract in Texas City. This unfortunate saga of 2002 needs to come to a conclusion that will be beneficial to all involved. That is why the Union Membership of Texas city is now extending our hand in friendship and sincere enthusiasm to the company. The Union is confident that a mutually helpful agreement can be reached in a short time period. With the dedicated positive efforts of all involved, the future can be guided down a bright and prosperous path for both the company and Texas City.
